Shop the Perimeter

Every now and again we stumble on to information where we say that we wish we would have thought of that. Shopping the perimeter of a supermarket is one of those. I never gave it a second thought but it makes perfect sense when you think about it. Dieters and Bariatric patients want and need information about diet. We recommend that you shop the perimeter.
This means that you should do most of your grocery shopping among the fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and fish, and non dairy products, all of which are located on the outer edges of the supermarket. We very strongly advise judicious shopping of the middle aisles, focusing there on complex carbohydrates and grains. Most foods in the middle of the store that have an extended shelf life are likely to contain trans fats and unhealthy carbohydrates. Try this method next time you shop and see if you can improve your eating by shopping wisely now that you are better informed.
