Rant!!!!!!!!

It isn't often that I go on a rant since I consider myself a person that can maintain control and a measure of professionalism when things go awry. However, I'm going to make an exception here as a result of the Quaker Oats Company's new offering, Banana and Oats Baked Muffin Bar. With words on the front like "made with whole grain oats", "Good Source of Fiber" and "0 g Trans Fats" they try to sway your thinking to consider this a "healthy bar". They don't come right out and lie and call it a health bar but they spin the hell out of the description on the cover to try to trick you. This folks is called "marketing". Now let's look inside the bar and compare it to a real health bar. The Quaker product has:130 calories (37g total weight) , 26 grams of Carbohydrate and only 2 grams of protein. See if this bar curbs your appetite. The reason that it is so low in protein is that it is loaded with starch (a cheap filler and WAY less expensive than protein) and with sugars. Now look at the Vitamin content: Vitamin A 0%, Vitamin C 0%, Calcium 0% (ladies are you listening?) and Iron a whopping 2%.

Now let's look at one of our best selling bars (I wonder why) Crisp and Crunch Cinnamon Bar.
Our bar has 160 calories, 18 grams of Carbohydrate and 15 grams of Protein. Now check out the vitamin content of our bar:
Vitamin A 10%
Vitamin C 10%
Calcium 10%
Iron 15%
Vitamin E 10%
Thiamin 10%
Riboflavin 10%
Niacin 10%
Vitamin B6 10%
Folate 15%
Vitamin B12 10%
Biotin 10%
Pantothenic Acid 10%
Phosphorous 15%
Iodine 10%
Zinc 10%
Copper 15%

Can you see the difference? Which one is of greater benefit to you and your family? We are experiencing an obesity epidemic in this country and the Quaker Oats Company and their Ivy League marketing staff is not on your side. In the words of Bill O'Reilly, "whose looking out for you".
