We now have the BariCare products in stock and ready to ship at a very competetive price. These new, first of a kind products are just what a post bariatric patient needs. These great tasting supplements provide vital nutrition in the most optimal portion sizes for various stages of post surgical care. Best of all, they deliver this nutrition in 2, 3 or 4 ounce portions. For the Chocolate and Vanilla beverages the patient can combine the product with 2 to 4 ounces of cold or hot water to create a creamy and decadent treat. For a thicker delight, patients can combine our Creamy Custard with 2 ounces of cold water, or for a smooth, velvety pudding mix with 3 ounces of cold water. These convenient portion sizes accomodate the patients' needs at various stages of bariatric surgical care without product loss or spoilage. Also, BariCare is an innovative supplement that provides the patient to bridge the important post surgical gap from clear liquids to grocery foods. Rant!!!!!!!!

It isn't often that I go on a rant since I consider myself a person that can maintain control and a measure of professionalism when things go awry. However, I'm going to make an exception here as a result of the Quaker Oats Company's new offering, Banana and Oats Baked Muffin Bar. With words on the front like "made with whole grain oats", "Good Source of Fiber" and "0 g Trans Fats" they try to sway your thinking to consider this a "healthy bar". They don't come right out and lie and call it a health bar but they spin the hell out of the description on the cover to try to trick you. This folks is called "marketing". Now let's look inside the bar and compare it to a real health bar. The Quaker product has:130 calories (37g total weight) , 26 grams of Carbohydrate and only 2 grams of protein. See if this bar curbs your appetite. The reason that it is so low in protein is that it is loaded with starch (a cheap filler and WAY less expensive than protein) and with sugars. Now look at the Vitamin content: Vitamin A 0%, Vitamin C 0%, Calcium 0% (ladies are you listening?) and Iron a whopping 2%.

Now let's look at one of our best selling bars (I wonder why) Crisp and Crunch Cinnamon Bar.
Our bar has 160 calories, 18 grams of Carbohydrate and 15 grams of Protein. Now check out the vitamin content of our bar:
Vitamin A 10%
Vitamin C 10%
Calcium 10%
Iron 15%
Vitamin E 10%
Thiamin 10%
Riboflavin 10%
Niacin 10%
Vitamin B6 10%
Folate 15%
Vitamin B12 10%
Biotin 10%
Pantothenic Acid 10%
Phosphorous 15%
Iodine 10%
Zinc 10%
Copper 15%

Can you see the difference? Which one is of greater benefit to you and your family? We are experiencing an obesity epidemic in this country and the Quaker Oats Company and their Ivy League marketing staff is not on your side. In the words of Bill O'Reilly, "whose looking out for you".

Cher Ewing and www.bandedtogether.com

Cher Ewing is a life style coach and operates www.bandedtogether.net and also hosts a weekly radio show at www.blogtalkradio.com/bandbanter that serves those patients that are about to have or have had lap band surgery. Cher has invited me and Tim Beard, Sales and Marketing Director for Kay's Naturals on her radio show on Monday, October13th at 5:00 Central Time.
We will be discussing several topics and one is how an alliance between two companies
www.myhealthmanagement.com and www.kaysnaturals.com can benefit you the consumer.
We will also cover a subject that to most of you is "black art" and that is the reading of nutritional labels on the products you buy and what does it all mean. We will also visit our new product line Bari Care which is specifically designed for recent post op Bariatric patients. Cher is an exciting host and I guarantee you that if you tune in not only will you not be bored but you will gain knowledge that will make you a better informed consumer. We will be giving away a recipe book contributed by www.myhealthmanagement.com and this book is a treasure trove of ideas and recipes that can release you from diet boredom.

Here is how to find the show: Sit down in front of your computer and turn the volume way up on your speakers (you can adjust them to suit you when the show starts) go to www.blogtalkradio.com/bandbanter and sit back and enjoy the show. Cher will do a bit of an intro and then she will call on Tim and me about 10 minutes after the hour to join her and we'll banter (Ha!) until Cher decides to throw us off the show. If you do miss it however, you will be able to listen to it on this blog whenever you want since we will post the show in it's entirety as soon as we get the recording from Cher.

Join us won't you??????????????????

Exercise Ugh!!

I am no different than you. I dislike exercise and can never seem to budget the time to burn off some calories. I am however, a voracious reader and recently read an article about creative ways we can burn more calories and would like to share them here.

1. Shake your booty! Yep, dance while you are getting ready for work in the morning and for an added attraction pull your spouse and the kids into the process so they can get some additional moves in before breakfast or going to school/work.
2. Soccer Moms (and Hockey Moms too) instead of sitting down while your kiddies are practicing their (fill in sport) you can be walking around and remaining active and burning calories instead of sitting in the canvas chair.
3. Do crunches in bed before getting up in the morning. Draw knees towards your chest 30,40 or 50 times in the morning and before going to sleep at night.
4. Keep a mini-stepper under your desk at work and pedal away while you work. This is tantamount to getting paid to exercise. And it works great.
5. Put food in the micro for lunch? Don't sit there and watch it, take a lap around the office/kitchen or just move around to burn those additional calories. Be creative !!
6. Kids out riding their bikes? Why don't you run along side to build your cardio and burn more calories?

I believe you get the idea. It takes more energy to stand than it does to sit so stand every chance you get and continue to burn the calories in creative ways. If any of you have any additional suggestions or creative ways to burn additional calories then send them in and I'll publish them
